Israel Engagement Specialist: IACT

Role Overview

Inspire the Jewish future by joining Santa Barbara Hillel as our next Israel Engagement Specialist: IACT. We are seeking an extroverted, well-organized person with a can-do attitude and a passion for Israel engagement and education to serve as the “quarterback” of our Jewish student life team on all things Israel-related. Offering multiple Israel trips annually, Santa Barbara Hillel is proud to be a leading national campus in the field of Israel engagement.
 
You will excite and encourage students to go on a Birthright Israel trip by engaging students through innovative recruitment strategies and authentic relationship-building. This includes building and cultivating relationships with students, creating engaging events, developing brand-centric marketing materials, supervising student interns and managing an expansive program budget. The Israel Engagement Specialist: IACT is also responsible for pre and post-trip student experiences, creating a complete and holistic experience that connects them more deeply.

You will have extra support and networking as a member of a national cohort of campus coordinators in the Hillel International IACT (“Inspired, Active, Committed, Transformed”) Israel initiative.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an engager and educator as part of a larger, dynamic Hillel team. Learn in seminars / conferences, and bring this knowledge back to the organization. Incorporate Israel experiences across Hillel programming and engagement.

  • Plan, implement and lead high quality Birthright Israel trips for the Winter and Summer seasons.

  • Grow the number of Birthright Israel trip participants from Santa Barbara Hillel through effective recruitment and marketing.

  • Engage trip participants in Jewish life at Santa Barbara Hillel before and after the trip, especially in the areas of Israel education/advocacy, social justice/community service and Jewish learning.

  • Create and maintain a vast network of meaningful, authentic relationships across campus, and transform Jewish life on campus through Birthright Israel and related experiences.

  • Supervise student recruitment interns who will support Birthright recruitment and some related administrative tasks.

  • Position Santa Barbara Hillel as the premier Birthright option for students at UC Santa Barbara.

  • Support and add to Santa Barbara Hillel’s experiential program arc and Jewish student life team.

  • Advise and coordinate the activities of student groups relating to Jewish Life/ Israel-programming and education.

Skills:

  • Natural networker and authentic relationship builder, capable of engaging students in all stages of their college career from a variety of backgrounds, including Greek life and various campus communities.

  • Outgoing, personable, extroverted, and able to establish a “presence” in front of large groups.

  • Social media savvy with strong marketing knowledge, and an understanding of how to work with the wider Santa Barbara Hillel and Birthright Israel brands.

  • Proven leadership skills and able to be a supportive and loyal team member.

  • Excellent follow-through on projects with many moving parts, and able to see projects through from start to finish every time.

  • Patient, compassionate and calm under pressure.

  • Able to maintain detailed records, manage high-volume data and adhere to deadlines and instructions.

  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

 

What You’ll Bring to the Job:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 0 – 3 years of professional work experience. Experience as a volunteer or professional in a Jewish organization is a plus, as is customer service or other types of direct customer relations work. 

  • A team-oriented approach to work, a self-directed work ethic, a sense of humor, an ability to connect with and appreciate diverse personalities, and a willingness to take risks and learn from each new challenge or success. 

  • A sense of comfort with your Jewish self, while actively cultivating this piece of your identity with and alongside students.

  • Prior travel experience to Israel and a familiarity with Israeli society and culture

 

What You’ll Receive:

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this position is $43,000 to $48,000.
